Happening

Yet another steelhead year has slipped away. The first legit sign of life, an unquestionable start. From this, running from sometime in June into early April. There is no lapse within. He is there. From the soft to the touch unhardened leaves of early summer, the fall of them, into the life-less stages of winter and on into the earliest of buds of spring he runs. It comes around every bend, within each day, as the sun slides further south upon the horizon and on it’s seemingly endless path north again. Ever present. Change. Happening.

As the sun has set on this, another is on the horizon. Our summer runs are beginning their migration down the coast. A few already possibly nosing into freshwater flowing west. The thoughts of these fish making a break out of an outside seam boulder garden to chase the dry has me tying in preparation, anticipation and optimism of the coming season…”there he is”
